May Life Drawing Sketch, School WIP, and Plants
I didn't feel totally at peace with claiming my "urban sketch" drawing as a "life drawing," because at least half of the process was not done "from life," so I did another quick sketch for May:
And here's what my Perspective final project looked like after inking, between penciling and adding watercolor:
Also, I thought I'd share these pics I took a week or two ago, of some of the stuff growing around our abode (not tended to by either me or my sister -- I'm not even sure if it's really being tended currently at all, though our landlady did some work on the area this Spring):
For some reason, I've been recalling Christmas music often this past week, too...I don't know...haha.

Watercolor 262
Unnumbered
To answer Katie’s question about the last post, those indents on the cups are flap handles.
I found this one on a pad, and touched it up a bit. I don’t know if I posted it before. But here is the new version.
New Piece.
I took a pause in the packing. This is based on something I saw on the internet and decided to try in my own way.
It is postcard-size.

Glazes!
Just because of Beautiful
Instead of going on and on – like the Brits about Brexit – about packing and boxes and more of the same, which is taking all my time now, I think you might prefer to see the lovelies a young lady brought back home from points west.
Does one need them? Maybe not in the sense of necessity. But does one need them? Yes, for the beauty of those glazes.

And if you can't decide which one to take? Take both! |

Picturesque Place
For Dinner
This is a four-century old restaurant, made with virgin forest logs and ancient paneling. Note the low ceilings and doors. People here were very short.
See the tiny bed?
Still life.
The wildflower bed for table bouquets. And chestnut tree in full bloom on the walk home.

First Flowers
Late Spring
The earliest rose.
A favorite of mine.
This azalea came in a gift arrangement years ago, and never bloomed since, until this year. This makes me happy.

With many more coming, and Peonies about to open. They are called Pentecost roses here and they will adorn the festival.

Potting and Furniture
The Sun Has Come
Here are my cleaned up pots, and still tomatoes to plant. The weathered old fencing is coming down.
Geraniums, some leggy old ones and some new fillers.
These are my annual fence-hangers along the road. It is required of all farm houses that passers-by are edified by beautiful flowers on the property perimeter. At least I think it is a rule, because it seems to be universally done.
Finally spring warmth has arrived after long cold wet months. So the whole neighborhood is working in gardens. I have been potting seedlings, which fortunately survived being too long in their trays.

Studio Storage
My Gents picked up two fine pieces of cabinetry today, one for church stuff in the lower story.....
And one for my studio. This is a 1912 reproduction of a 1600’s piece, and very heavy, I hear. I was not along. I am still packing boxes.

Art School Finals - In Progress
Just a few quick work-in-progress pics of finals work for art school. Next week is the last week to work on things, then the following week is the exhibit already; and I'm not exactly sure if I'll be able to finish everything in time, but I'm going to try!
gouache |
Pen-and-ink, with not a drop of ink on it yet *laughs nervously* |
for perspective, (one-point) |
this is what it looked like about 5 hours of work later... (more than 6, if you add the short breaks in) |
Also this last week, I went to make some shortcake lemon cheesecake bars, but our lemon had gone bad, so I added some crushed almonds instead for variety, and then messed up while adding the ingredients and compensated by winging the rest, and then when it came out looking nothing like what I was going for, I was highly suspicious; but I was delightfully surprised that the product of my botched labors was actually quite edible. It didn't last more than a week.
happy accidents, not very pretty, but yummy XD |
Yeah.
So that is that.

Watercolor 260
Landscape
This is a variation of a previous one, and I like it better.
To answer a question about the earlier one, whether it is intended to evoke thoughts of fog on a river, the answer is “yes” and it could be anything else that comes to your mind. I thought of a peninsula on a lake, maybe on a hot and hazy summer day. Art works can bring up different associations for different people, and that is good.
On another note, these latest small works are on “ rough” watercolor paper, and I find I much prefer this texture to smooth. I like the minuscule pools of color on the surface.

Because I am not allowed by who-knows-what-gods-of-tecnology to comment anymore on the blog, I will add some replies here.
To Sarah Y. on the marvellous urban sketching. Lovely aerial and linear perspective, sense of place, depth of space, and atmosphere.
To Katie, on the sculpture of the "guy with the baby" from Berlin. It was labeled "Young Bacchus and Baby Faun." We saw no indicators of faun-ness, so concluded that fauns start out as normal babies and mutate, so watch your babies.
To all others with compliments and comments, Thank you.
