End of Inktober

Piece in Progress

Blessed Reformation Day

Found This

I am cleaning out attic today.

This was a commissioned piece, many years ago, but the commissioner disappeared off the face of the earth, so it was never delivered to him. I did get my down payment, so it wasn’t a total loss financially. But it has been taking up space for a looooong time. So have others. One son says it is time to set up a social media account and sell some.

Märchen Illustration

This is my version of some fairytale illustrations, combined and modified.
Yesterday got very full, so it didn’t get posted.

October With No Ink

View of the Santis mountains on our evening walk home.

Inktober 28

Finished

But flawed. I had to do a major correction, and it shows on cream paper. That’s the problem with ink, unforgiving.
Oh well, it was almost good.

This was supposed to post yesterday, but didn’t. I must have been tired. I did a huge amount of unpacking boxes and organizing.

Inktober 26

Tardy

I started this yesterday, but didn’t get it posted. It is an adaptation of a folktale illustration in one of my collection.

See Something, Sketch Something

A copy, modified. I have a pad of large planning paper on my desk for instant notes, doodles, sketches, reminders, and such.

This is a new sheet. The last one was over full.

Stretching Definitions

This maybe isn’t technically, actually, truly INK, but I decided it’s close enough.

Chalk Pen Signs

Today I was asked to letter and illustrate some signs for a restaurant where we ate. I have never used these sign markers, and found then inefficient and annoying, but the signs were made and the proprietress was happy. The signs were whisked away as soon as they were done, so I only got a picture of the one outside by the road. The other two were of wine recommendations and a Raclette menu.

In this town - look at the mountains, not the sky trails.

Old Work

Unpacking boxes of books. This appeared. A book cover illustration I did in 2007. Always one wants to start over and make it better….

Some people don’t.

Inktober 12

Hmmmm…..

I just saw my piece from yesterday did not post, so here is a second attempt.
The second figure…. or two.

Appealing Ideas

I saw these from an other artist (better, finished works), I liked them, so I did quick thumbnail sketches to add them to potential later works. Lovely colors and effects, right?

Inktober 13

New Start

Talking on a call and hands kept busy : grab a pen and paper.

The previous one will get further attention, but it wasn’t in reach.

Inktober 9

Two

Wrong paper, nearly empty watercolor palette, and scrounging for pen, but my hands needed to paint a bit.
Moving isn’t conducive to having things on hand, but I try to carry some basics. Then the trick is to have them in some place to find them….

Inktober 7

Start

Today I began my day with art, instead of leaving it to the last minutes of the day. I actually thought, planned, prepared guidelines, and sketched the initial drawing. Then I started a piece that can and will take multiple days, because the next couple of days will be impossibly full, with no art time. But I will try to grab a couple of minutes anyway.

So, here is the start.

City Sketch

In St.Gallen

St. Gallen Stroll

With Katrina

We are blessed to have a dear young lady with us in our home. We took a morning to go to our “ big city” of St. Gallen to see some sights - and get chocolate. The Laderach shop, you know.

I have posted various pictures of the city before…..

The early Saint of the walled up room.

The skinny way

How one trims the hedges

How one gives flowers to friend.

How one gets lost in street mazes. (We did not, because we were with Better Half who has a sense of direction. I would have been lost.)

Pretties everywhere

Where we had our first dinner in the city, in “scary germ” times.

The City Church steeple

…but this time we also visited two churches we had not yet been in. We went to the City Church first. Every old town had its own municipal church, besides whatever monastery church or castle church or other specialty churches or neighborhood churches they had. This one is dedicated to St. Laurance. It was started in the 800’s, shortly after the Irish monks came to convert the Swiss heathens to Christianity. It went through various iterations, until it arrived at its present Neo-Gothic exterior, with subsequent interior renovations. We liked what they did.

From this

They kept most of the early structure, after a big fire, but made it “more churchly.”
Of course, the very old original structure was much smaller, and grew with time and wealth.See below -

The interior

Chancel with organ behind

Pulpit

Stained glass window in chancel, behind the organ.

To be continued, with a visit to the grand Cathedral very close by. The Cathedral was within the original monastery stone walls, and the City Church was just outside the wall.
