New Trip

In Africa

Maria and hubby decided to visit an African country again for their vacation this year. They chose Uganda πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ and are happy they did. Maria said I could share some of her photos with you. It’s a beautiful country. It’s Christian. She said you see shops there with names like “Testimony of Christ Farm Supply” and “God’s Grace Stationery.” And the people are kind, friendly, giving, and helpful. Her endorsement has convinced some in the family it’s worth a visit.

Garden of first lodge where they stayed.

“They tried,” she said.

To be continued…
Coming up, pumbas, rhinos, and parasitic figs ( not necessarily next time, but sometime).

South 3

Baroque and Bone House

Day trips had excursions into Italy, with stops to see the sights.

Always open and adorned

The pulpit with a narrow door for a skinny priest - because gluttony is a vice.

Side chapel

Gorgeous ceilings, so even if your mind wanders, and your eyes roll upward, you are reminded to stay focused on things heavenly.

No confession allowed here - or, cherubim guarding the eastward gate to Eden

And the incongruous big hand probably means stop and pay attention to…. Something

“Hail, Mary, full of grace,” as are we all in Christ

The Bone House: over the centuries, with so many parishioners, the graveyards get full, and new space needs to be cleared, so old bones go in the bone house.

Where they assemble and conduct scientific inquiries and weigh matters, and maybe conduct orchestras - or whomp upon the unruly who make undignified jokes.

End of trip south.

South 2

Wild Flora in Soglio

A different kind of wild…. No, I don’t know why one needs armaments in one’s flower pots.

Edelwiess on the left. Pine on the right.

On to the haunted house. Yes, it said so.

Nature triumphing

Light and life prevailing

Once elegant

Walk away.

Next, Baroque beauty and a Bonehouse.

A Trip South

Graubunden And Italy

Somebody - not me - needed a getaway from a stressy week, so on motorcycle and with a friend, she went to one of our favorite little mountain villages, Soglio, to the same historic hotel where we stayed some years ago. It is in new hands now. (It had been a family business for generations, but the heirs gave it up.) But it looks mostly the same, except this time the bed was not a short, carved, 1600’s poster bed.

It had its own little bathroom, down a stone staircase.

With Soglio toiletries, THE best, from mountain herbs, made in that village.

The gigantic antlers, dark paintings, ancient weaponry, and armor still graced the reception hall.

The dining room was still adorned in wildflowers. Add a candle, tea, and one’s journal, and how better to while away the time until supper of local produce.

To be continued with haunted villa, bone house, and other interestings.
