On a Rainy Day

Today some of us braved buckets of rain for an excursion into Switzerland’s heartland. First stop, Schwyz, as in the capital city of the canton of the same name. Switzerland has that oddity: the capital city of the canton of Zürich is Zürich, of Bern is Bern, of Geneva is Geneva, for many cantons, except ones like Appenzell which fought neighbor against neighbor over religion, until they decided to split into two parts of one canton, with the chief city of one having the canton name, and the other picking a random city from the mountains. 

In Schwyz we stopped at the Victorinox factory, which was beset by the ongoing annoyances of limited entry, which, at ten minutes to lunch hour and people inside wandering aimlessly around, did not get us all in. But, no matter. The town was worth a look. And we stopped at the Weißer Rossli for a fine lunch.

Several people have commented on posts and some have asked questions, which I cannot answer in the questions format, so I will do so here. 

First “Thank you” to all for comments and compliments to all who post. And “Thank you” to Sarah Y. for your regular contributions in an intriguing medium. Very best wishes in the contest. 

Regarding the question about the old sculpture, it was among things my mother had saved and packed away. She is downsizing and gave me some things, that among them. The piece is perched on a cabinet in my studio now. I have no idea what I will do with it. 

Regarding painting on hot press paper, the gift pads from my students, I still have not. That becomes a problem when one saves the best stuff for a special work, but I have resolved to pull it out and just use it. Look for something coming up.

Hi, Bye - Temporarily Slacking

I know, I know, I have not posted a life drawing for May yet -- I confess I did not even draw one in May. I will try to do one (or two) this month, but idk if I will post them.

I don't know if I will post on the blog here at all the rest of the month, actually. I'm thinking of slacking officially until the end of June, with the deadline for the comic contest fast approaching, and trying to look for a new abode, whilst going back to one of my day jobs...

The hubbub from my sister's wedding is over, and all the friends and family have gone home. So this week was mostly a lot of cleaning up, recuperating, readjusting, and working on the comic, of course.

THE FIRST EPISODE IS NOW UP, BTW. Frightening news to share, haha, but as much as we all are still not super happy with it, we told each other that we would never publish it at all if we kept picking at it! So there it is -- quite flawed, but it exists. We learn and move on. Maybe put some heavily-tinted glasses on if you decide to view it, though, haha...

Also I played with rhubarb.

My landlady had extra that someone gave her, so she let me pick out a few of the stalks. I rinsed and chopped them, then threw them in a pan with a skim of water and few pinches of granulated sugar and cinnamon, and cooked it on medium-low heat for about 15-20 minutes.

Not very pretty, but it made the apartment smell AMAZING, and I figured it could be a fun ice cream topping. XD If I can keep myself from snatching a spoonful at random times, and maybe use it up before then, haha!
