Watercolors, Unnumbered and 115

Flowers

Some floral exercises didn’t turn out very well, like this one.....

....so they got painted over to be used for mixed media projects, someday.

Instead, I am enjoying the promises of spring in the first real flowers.

Still Life, Stripes, Watercolor 115

This was less problematic.

  1. I like the finished apples very much!

Our season has been very indecisive! I had flowers starting to bloom (and put a few things in pots) only to have winter come back with a vengeance and put a stop to such growth. (The blessing of that cold return is that it seems to have wiped out the first awakening of the barn flies!) Now we have blooms again with daffodils just starting to open. I keep meaning to ask about your potted bulbs that bloom so well- do you overwinter those pots and they all bloom the same every year? Or are there new plantings there? And if you keep them, where do you have them over the summer and winter?

  2. It looks like we will have winter return this weekend, too. Just when I am starting to think about putting first pots back outside, after being in all winter.
The small basket of mini daffodils, was a gift long ago. In the summer they sit on the partially covered porch. They are out most of the winter except for very cold weather, then they come in, warm up, and bloom early, every year. I keep them on the stair landing, unheated, but above freezing. Water and a bit of light and they rejuvenate regularly as first promise of spring.
