It's an atrocious sketch, especially in the head and face, and looks precious little like what I was attempting to recreate on my page; but I didn't pencil out the shapes or anything, just went at it with the pen as I have been doing all along, so I suppose that's to be expected. :)
Actually, Sarah, you should not be so hard on yourself. This drawing might not be your regular finished smoothness, but look at its positive aspects: It is well observed, you depicted the perspective of distance quite well (especially in the far arm - well done!), you indicated in economical strokes the concepts of volume and space (again: well done!), almost everything is instantly "readable" for what is it supposed to convey, the drawing is expressive of repose in the angles and sinking of the figure into the shadowed depths of the couch, and you have a good variety of dark to middle to light values. That is just what a life drawing is supposed to do for you: getting those things. So you can certainly call it a success.
ReplyDeleteIn a small critique I would mention that the lid of the laptop could have a darker line on the left and top to make its position as being viewed fROMm the back less ambiguous, and the left knee could use perhaps a bit more space.
Oh, and your hair lines are lovely.
Wow, thank you so much!! It's great to know that maybe I'm learning a bit more about drawing than I feel like I am. XD Ah, yes, I see the different possible viewing of the laptop lid now, haha!
DeleteOh, I think it's a sweet little sketch! I feel like I can flip that laptop lid from from to back in my mind, so that is my only critique. Nice practice!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D Haha, yes, I hadn't realized there was that thing with the lid before now XD
DeleteYou are most welcome to comments, of course, and we always hope they are constructive.
