This is one portion of a very large painting.... |
And that fly is painted on, but everyone wants to shoo it away. |
marvellous use of light |
A detail of a family altar. Would that we all had one. |
This and the next two are portions of a large painting of a village scene, with abundant details of local life. |
Abundance indeed. And the One Thing Needful in the background (above). |
That last painting is really fantastic. Is "the one thing needful" Jesus? or a preacher? in the background? And what are the two old figures in the middle representing?
ReplyDeleteThe village scene reminds me very much of the wallpaper mural that was in my Aunt Carol's kitchen long ago. Do you remember it? I think it was a Brueghel but the one above is so similar, at first I thought it was the same.
I love those paintings! So much to look at and notice... They remind me of some of my kids' favorite books that have very detailed pictures with so much to see.
ReplyDeletePam, note the commentary with the 165 on it. The subject of the painting is in the distance: Jesus and Mary listening.
ReplyDeleteI would guess that the old figures are the equivalent of "We're all going to die" no matter how well-fed we are.
