Son, Samuel, wanted to use his growing woodworking skills to make Christmas gifts this year. We have a neighbor who is a wood craftsman of the highest skill so Samuel paid him a visit. Our friend generously gave him scraps from his extensive collection of leftover pieces of exotic and fine woods. He also gave Samuel some other advice such as the best glue to use on a cutting board.
Samuel made a practice cutting board and then made another with these beautiful woods. It came out very nicely and when sanded was a smooth as glass. A friend of his gave this as a gift to her parents.
For his friend he decided to make a monogram from wood. He asked me to pencil a design onto the wood and he used a burner to make it permanent.
He was very satisfied with the results!
He had his older brother's name for the family gift exchange to decided to also make a monogram for him. I can't tell you what kind of wood these are made from (maybe maple?) but the wood is dense and heavy.
Again, he wanted me to pencil a design and I decided to use some manly shirt patterns
This time Samuel used a torch to burn the edges for more color and dimension.
Neal was pleased to receive a hand made gift from his brother.
Impressive! So gratifying to see one's offspring using those skills and creativity laboriously instilled in them.
ReplyDeleteCompliments to Sam for fine gifts.
