Churches make good refuges from rain, so we used the opportunity.
As is typical with saintly hermits, cloisters grow up around their hermitages. So a monastery has been on the site for 600 years, the anniversary of which was celebrated last year.
This is a handmade needlework (!) tapestry hanging in the narthex of the church. Note the dates on the center top.
The background landscape is the setting of the town, nicely rendered. The insets are - from left to right - Ursanne, the bears visit to him, the silver reliquary (housed in the church), the crypt under the altar, and Ursanne again.
There are a mind- boggling number of stitches in this piece. It is about five feet long.
That’s incredible and the details to make such and intricate picture. Wonderful!!🎨
