Excursion - Artistic

From the GOOD Photographer

The son with the good camera and very good eye was with us also taking pictures on the Rigi. He said I could share some with you. They delight the artistic soul. (He noted they are unedited, but I like them so.)

Excursion 3

To Weggis

After the flower path, we walked on further down the mountain to Rigi Kaltbad.

This looks like a little house with a pretty front garden, but it is the gate house to….

The big house above.

Also accessible by steps.

The fountain at Kaltbad.

The current carriage at Kaltbad.

The horses of the carriage.

We took the cable car down from the Rigi - that was the fourth S: Seilbahn 🚠
From there we walked into the town of Weggis, past many gorgeous flower beds.

Water flower?

These beauties belong to the church, and buffer the church wall from the sidewalk.

Also in the church border.

From there we passed through a park studded with giant redwoods and sequoias. They were fashionable all over Europe in the later 1800’s and early 1900’s.

This one took seven people to encircle it.

Then we sat with drinks on a floating, bobbing pier. That’s the Bürgenstock directly across the lake - haunt of Bilderburgers and their ilk.

…Until time for dinner on a lakeside terrace looking toward the Pilatus.

We took three trains to get back home, so ended with the first S: Scheine x3.

And all was good.

Excursion 2

Flower Path

The clouds had cleared.

All along the path were markers explaining the flowers.

Akelei/Columbine came in many shades of purple.

The photographer with the good camera got some marvelous photos.

The rocks for which the Felsenweg is named.

And, behold……

Fire lilies!

…..enjoying the views.

The road on the left used to be a train track, so it has gentle grades.

The farmer back here gives horses-drawn sleigh rides in the winter.

Farms must have flowers. I think it is a law 😁.

A flower box back where we started the circle for the Felsensenweg and flower walk.
These are Edelweiss. Yes, you can sing 🎵 the song 🎶 for the next week.

Summer Excursion

To the RIGI

In June, all the staff of Better Half’s business take an excursion to some surprise location. This year the hints were “four S’s,” of which the first two were given: Schuhe und Schiene/shoes (meaning, good walking shoes) and train track. So off we went on a train from Zürich to Lucerne, where it soon became apparent that the next S was Schiff/ship.

We had a leisurely cruise in the Vierwaldstättersee/Lake Lucerne with all its shore line views of old hotels and villas.
But first were the city views.

The whole fleet of ships were plying the waters on that warm, sunny day.
The twin steeples is a church with a mighty organ, that two sons played with great effect some years ago.

(I did a painting for Oma some eons ago of that little boat house, because she liked it.)

And then we got off in Vitznau, to take the cogwheel train up the Rigi.

We went right past our usual stomping grounds at Rigi Kaltbad….

….and on up to the last stop at the top. In the clouds, literally.

No expansive views here today. But this stone chapel is always pretty.

We trekked up to the Gipfel/peak by the transmission tower, which is “old,” and kept as a backup system to the newer glass cables.

The tourists all took pictures, views or not.

Clouds

Clouds

Clouds

And clouds. Are you impressed with the view from the top?

The Chinese all posed by this rock.

Because…

Let’s be friends.

Guess which way we took? It says, “steep way or comfortable way.”

A peek through the clouds.
Then we hiked downward for awhile….

……until we stopped here for a bit of lunch: Wurst und Brot or Suppe mit Brot.

As a digestive stroll, we walked a circle on the pretty Felsenweg/Rock Trail which is bordered by many kinds of wildflowers, all nicely labeled for your edification…….
