Blessed Pentecost

May the gifts of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance be yours.

And may all involved in Leah’s wedding today have them more abundantly. Blessings to the couple.

Getting Closer!

We are SO CLOSE to having the first episode of our contest comic finished! I expect to have it up online by the end of this week, barring any unforseen hiccups. (There will be four episodes total, each about 40-45 panels long.)

That's pretty much all I have to say today, haha...I almost forgot to post, I was so busy working with the panels; and I am going to do a little bit more yet after this, even though it is getting quite late, because I kind of don't want to lose this section of momentum I'm in right now. XD

Ancient Artifact

Sculpture

This recently resurfaced. I made this in college eons ago for practice in making a mold of a sculpture. I think I sculpted the original in wax, then covered it in a hard casting material, probably plaster with shims. Then the wax was melted out, the interior was layered in this plastic-y material (Fiberglas?) with gauze (I think) for strengthening. Then the mold form was removed and the shimmed areas smoothed.
The subject is from a Rodin work, as I recall.

A Bit More About Our Webcomic-Making Process

We've got kind of a (messy) system down now, and are a little over a quarter of the way finished with the work for our contest entry. I forgot to track our time spent on the project better, but I would say we have about a solid month and a half's worth of time into it already, including the brainstorming, script-writing, character designing, file figuring-out, and such other necessary stops along the way. And we have approximately five weeks before the last possible day we can submit the story to the website.

It will continue to be an interesting ride. XD

So, I've snagged some behind-the-scenes screenshots from my end of the work process for you to peek at today:

A shared Google Drive folder allows us to quickly have access to any sent files (when there is internet available, that is). Folders within folders help everything stay a little organized, haha! Also, we are really great at naming things. *thumbs up* *nods head*

We write each other reminders and notes in the Script, too, haha.

A panel's artwork, in MediBang Paint

A scene being put together and text added in Clip Studio Paint (the scene we were thinking of cutting, but now I think it's staying)

So, yeah! Hope this is fun... It's kind of a lot of switching between things and programs, but when we can, we "batch" things and do several at once. And when the internet is good, there are hardly any problems (anymore, haha).

Will keep you posted as we continue, if you are interested! :)

Still Working on Comics

Not much different this week compared to last, except that everything is a little more crazy and has stepped on the gas. Kind of feels like I'm nearing the final boss level of a video game while I only have one life left. Idk haha

a background I drew for the comic

We kind of lost our proofreader, as she is knee deep in accelerated wedding planning, and I feel like I should not be working on side projects, but trying to help her out more. If it weren't for the fact that the contest prizes include sizeable chunks of dough, and if I were the only one working on it and my other two sisters hadn't also poured incredible time and effort into the project with me already, I probably would have given up on the thing within this past week.

There always seem to be more important things to do than my creative projects.

The Contest Project

Okay, so I think I mentioned that I was working on a project with two of my sisters in another state? It's a short story webcomic for a contest that involves potential cash prizes, and so that is why I have not been working as much on my first longer comic project. Deadlines with cash prizes seemed like a good reason to postpone it...I felt a little bit bad because I am already running behind on the timing that I'd estimated, but I will totally get back into it once this contest is over. :)

Anyway, making this story has been really fun and challenging! We actually work very well together, and we have been able to use Google Docs to share files back and forth, and messaging and video calls to chat about plots and other things that need discussing.

A digital art setting shot I drew for the comic. I traced the outlines for the car and most of the house, and idk if that's "cheating"...?

We all came up with the story concepts and script together, then Anna is mostly in charge of doing the character sketches and line art, Esther is mostly in charge of coloring and shading the characters, and I am mostly in charge of backgrounds and piecing everything together to upload it to the site.

here's one that we all worked on, from a scene we are thinking of cutting, haha
