Mostly Just Cooking Things Up

I don't have much to share or say this week. Just been plugging along with my various tasks and projects to the best of my ability, I guess.

this is a wip snip from my dragon webcomic

Baked some weird flat cookies with too much butter and an old mason jar mix we'd gotten as a gift a couple of Christmases ago. They smelled like popcorn while they were baking, and they taste a little strange, but they're slightly better frozen, haha.

The hiking trails have all been closed down here now, and it's been raining, so it's kind of hard to find excuses to get outside; but I've gotten some extra reading in, too, so that's something.

Also have been video chatting with some of my sisters back home more often. We are cooking up something fun together for an online contest. It may also be a little frightening.

I hope everyone is well. :)

Watercolor 415

A Swiss Mountain Scene

March Life Drawing

It's a little unproportioned, but once again it was good to do. :)

Just a regular pen and my sketchbook. I don't know if I ever really explained my process, so I will today, haha!

I start by figuring out roughly how wide and tall things are, and getting the major angles down, then begin adding the smaller shapes...

...and placing most noticeable shadows...

...until I get nearly finished, when I go back and see where I need more contrast and details.

The shadow cast by the object is almost always dead last when I do these drawings.

This one took me only a little over an hour to do. I am at a pretty comfortable place doing most inanimate objects now, although I still feel like I should be quicker at drawing; so if you see areas I should actively work on to improve, please let me know! I am having trouble finding major problems by myself, other than that I can't get proportions right usually. XD

Beginning -- Sneak Peak and WIP Screenshots

I finally got a little time to hunker down and make some real (albeit still rather small) progress on my webcomic project, and I figured I would show you some of the stuff here! :)

(I forgot to pay attention to saving my work in progress clippings as I went, so I just hid some of the layers so you could see kind of how the steps went...? haha One of the pros of doing digital art, right?)

working in Clip Studio Paint on my laptop, with a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet

of course, used some references from Pinterest...

I liked using the Pastel brush for the clouds, and the Glow layer mode for the extra light

And here is a sample of the next panel, too. (I kind of like how the lighting turned out, hehe.)

more Glow XD

Even though I am slower at this than I want to be, I am super excited that I might actually be able to pull this project off halfway decently. I am amazed that the artwork I've been able to do so far has come out a good percentage closer to what I have envisioned in my mind than what I would've expected as the reality. I am sure there will be more bumps along the way, and some stuff that I will not be able to get right, but I will do my best, and I will have fun and learn things and practice. XD

An Ancient Work

Oil

I painted this of my boys eons ago. I took this (very non-stellar) photo of it today.

One More Quilt

In the Family

Another relative showed us her special made-in-the-Family heirloom, which she treasures. This one is of the crazy quilt sort, with embroidered seams.

Other Patches

The quilting lady had random works in various areas of her house. This quilt (sorry about the picture) had a story connected to friendship for each of the six inch squares. So it is a memory quilt.

This woman started quilting as a girl. Her grandmother and mother were quilters. She has a story of her family home burnt down, and neighbor’s giving them loads of clothes for the child-rich family, and using the worn out scraps for quilts. Nothing wasted.
