Museum

Der Kosmograph Sebastian, by Chr. Amberger, 1552

Herzog Anton der Gute von Lothringen, by Hans Holbein d. J. 1543

Starched. Wouldn’t you love to arrange such a headdress every morning before heading out? And don’t forget the pins.

Isn’t this the best kind of face to paint? Character and expression and texture.

Johann Friedrich der Grossmütige, Kurfürst von Sachsen, by Lucas Cranach 1553 From Luther’s Time and Home area.

Very old medieval altar piece from Speyer, Abendmahl 1475

More Nativity pieces
One of these copied the other with some spatial adjustments. Altar triptych and panel painting.

Very excited shepherds

Museum Berlin

One of MANY

We went to a notable museum of masterworks. They are worth seeing, so I will give you a virtual tour of the highlights.

Early Dutch work. Parable of the unmerciful servant. The king is on the right. The forgiving scene is the background. The outfits are a mix of the then fashions and a Middle Eastern -garbed king.

A portrait by M. Van Mierveld, Delft. Dutch. Gorgeous textures.

A small work. Landscape with Animals. Jan van Kessel.

Still Life, de Heem, 1545

“The Dissolute Household,” Bible trampled underfoot, a beggar turned away, and jolly for now, but not for long. By Jan Steen, 1660

A life sized Dutch still life. Jan Janssen den Uhl, 1635

“The Sons of Marshal Ney,” by Marie-Eleonore Godefroot, 1810, Paris, The biggest boy has his father’s parade sword, a gift from Napoleon.

This is a detail from a very large work of “ The Marriage of Cupid and Psyche” The doves are pulling a chariot with a goddess in it; presumably one who is light as a feather for love.

And some Madonnas and Child works. These are very large.

And the jolliest Christ Child you’ve ever seen. From a medieval altar. Carved wood.

On to Berlin

The Non-Conformist City

Having delivered sundry goods, next on the agenda will an art museum, tomorrow, God willing.
Until then, this is what one sees in a typical abode, not that there is anything typical in Berlin.....

Dorf Again

Soglio Greens and Gardens

In a little square in the little town was a little shop, with no one in it. Then we went in. Local produce was arrayed for purchase - on the honor system. Write down on the list what you buy, put your money in the box and take what change you need.  So we did.

All around the town were summer floral decorations.

This is the entrance to the little on-your-honor shop.

While this is not a flower per se, look at that floral handwriting! It was an entry in the hotel guest book.

Tucked in back of the hotel and town was a gorgeous garden. It was open for  strolling or sitting or sipping  or  savouring cake or glaces.

In the very back were two very, very enormous Sequoia trees.

You would fit comfortably in that front niche, with lots of room for all your friends around the base of that tree.
