In June, all the staff of Better Half’s business take an excursion to some surprise location. This year the hints were “four S’s,” of which the first two were given: Schuhe und Schiene/shoes (meaning, good walking shoes) and train track. So off we went on a train from Zürich to Lucerne, where it soon became apparent that the next S was Schiff/ship.
We had a leisurely cruise in the Vierwaldstättersee/Lake Lucerne with all its shore line views of old hotels and villas.
But first were the city views.
The whole fleet of ships were plying the waters on that warm, sunny day.
The twin steeples is a church with a mighty organ, that two sons played with great effect some years ago.
(I did a painting for Oma some eons ago of that little boat house, because she liked it.)
And then we got off in Vitznau, to take the cogwheel train up the Rigi.
We went right past our usual stomping grounds at Rigi Kaltbad….
….and on up to the last stop at the top. In the clouds, literally.
No expansive views here today. But this stone chapel is always pretty.
We trekked up to the Gipfel/peak by the transmission tower, which is “old,” and kept as a backup system to the newer glass cables.
The tourists all took pictures, views or not.
Clouds
Clouds
Clouds
And clouds. Are you impressed with the view from the top?
The Chinese all posed by this rock.
Because…
Let’s be friends.
Guess which way we took? It says, “steep way or comfortable way.”
A peek through the clouds.
Then we hiked downward for awhile….
……until we stopped here for a bit of lunch: Wurst und Brot or Suppe mit Brot.
As a digestive stroll, we walked a circle on the pretty Felsenweg/Rock Trail which is bordered by many kinds of wildflowers, all nicely labeled for your edification…….
To be continued….
