Warsaw 8

More City Center

This is the main square, where things happen, though it doesn’t look like.

Right side

Left side

What one can get at a street restaurant. A Zloty is about 25cents.

And by then the group wanted ice cream, or coffee. So we sat.

And got postcards. And found one’s credit card is blocked in this country by a zealous credit card company, because one forgot to tell them we’d be traveling here. The country is not considered financially safe. And none of us had Zloties.

Then on to see the old fortifications

And pigeons

And a church

And very sad war memorials

Then back on our bus into the new part of the city.

Where the Jewish neighbothood was.

The new and growing part of the city.

On our way back to the airport to fly back to Switzerland.

And before we got there, we got the news that our flight was canceled. Some hours of handwringing followed, until we got vouchers for taxi, hotel, and a bit of supper.

And something to wash the troubles down. We got back to Zurich the following afternoon.

And missed the historic, first ever, summer burning of the Böögg.

But though this looks pleasant, by the time of burning it was pouring rain. And it took forever for the headstone blow off, so the weather didn’t get any better for the year.

Hello, Summer

And Flowers

I have been busy, busy on writing, so forgot to do more posts here, but I will get back to them. We are still in Warsaw, and that was in June.

We have had some summer weather this month, and eventually got a few flowers.
Enjoy.

And a re-bloom of my birthday Amaryllis from last year.

Warsaw 7

City Center and Another Garden

This is the re-built center.

A panda? Yup.

We went down a lot of steps to a castle garden….

Courtyard

A formal garden

Beautifully kept

Looking back toward the castle. Note the center arch…..

This was the long cellar, through that big arch, under the castle.

Going UP more steps, overlooking more of the garden

A lovely view.
This land is FLAT.

Then back to the city center…..

To be continued…..

Warsaw 6

Dinner

We were led to a fine restaurant that hosted military officers in former years. The walls were outfitted with enough armaments to hold a fairly substantial attack. The food was traditional Polish fare, very well prepared, and elegantly served.
My picture-taker was being charged by special request, so pictures are minimal.

Behold said officers.

The other weapons were on walls, and didn’t get their portrait taken.

The new city in the distance.
But we were heading to the old city.

There was quite a long speech here, but I don’t recall what it was about. Something to do with palaces.

And something else important behind us.

It has a story. I don’t know it.

This will tell you a part.

A native hero.

Warsaw was destroyed in The War, so these are reconstructions.

Coming to the main square of the old city, seen in the far left.

Next, to the old parts.
