Day of the Dead Festivities

Mexico City Celebrates All Saints Day

We had conflicting information about what was going on when for the festivities, but we had planned to see the historic city center, so we went. We found it crowded and colorful. And we saw blocked off streets, barriers for a parade route, and people lining that route. So….. does that indicate a parade? Soon? Later? We didn’t know. But we wanted to see the Cathedral, so we squeezed through the crowds, into the main plaza, and found it, too, overflowing, with no way to get to the cathedral.

We did finally get to see the cathedral, but only from the plaza. It was impossible to get past the crowds and barriers.

In the center of the plaza was this sea of marigolds, the flower of this festival.

This is the presidential palace.

This is the enormous flag at the center of everything.

To be continued…..
