Another Chapel

St. Martin Chapel

This is the saint, who, when still a Roman soldier, cut his cloak in two to share with a beggar. Later people wanted him to become bishop of Tours, but he didn't want to, so he hid, but didn't pick a good place: it was in the goose house. They honked and gave away his hiding place, so he became bishop and is ever afterward associated with a goose. And one eats goose on St. Martin's Day, which is November  11 and celebrated with light parades all over Europe. This is the day Martin Luther was baptised (born November 10), so that is where he got his name (because his father had brought him over to the church and needed a name on the spot).

This is the ceiling painting (thus the angle) of St. Martin sharing his cloak

And one more to come.
