A Wedding Happened

On a Mountain

It was Tuesday.
It was Summer Solstice.
It was glorious.

A little different from normal. Everyone tramped across the cow pasture to the hilltop, where the large cross was placed, which the farmer kindly fenced off and mowed a path and section on the hilltop. Gents were not allowed to turn around until Ladies arrived behind them. Then the groom got his first look at his bride. Tissues came out.

Then the gents escorted the ladies forward to ceremony site. (I am breaking the “No people” rule on this blog. Be happy.)

Reception room, in the mountain hut. It is an alpine clubhouse.

A quantity of friends came to celebrate-and help. Everything was made, arranged, and crafted by hand. The groom made the huge cross. A friend from Texas procured and arranged all the flowers. Others decorated, made guest book set up (write/draw/embellish a page), folded pretty napkin arrangements, hand lettered place cards, cut and arranged vegetable platters, set up tables, grilled the night before, and cleaned up the day after. (Many stayed overnight two nights in the hut’s sleeping rooms, which helped continuity greatly.) Vögeli provided lots of ivy for draping everywhere. Parents got food, Aunt from Texas cooked and cooked and cooked food and more food, Swiss friend made cake, friends served food/drinks/cake, friends provided music, brother was MC, father acquired and served wine.
And God smiled upon the day: it was bright, beautiful, and clear. During dinner a deluge dumped down - God reminding us to give thanks for the blessing we had. Then the rain quit, leaving the air cooler after the very hot day, perfect for waltzing on the patio after dark.
We gave thanks.
