The Island Mainau

Flower Island

In the afternoon, yesterday, we went to the Blumen Insel Mainau. It has a long, interesting history, which I will try to give next time, but it’s past my bedtime presently, and the wedding reception going on below our hotel room, and the sweltering heat did not augment slumbers last night. So here are a few introductory pretties.

Crossing the bridge unto the island.

A few of these old pianos were set about the island, being used as planters. Some still were playable, albeit haunted house style. It’s a bit sad to see them being weathered so.

The welcome at the entrance: Blumi.

Various flower figures graced the grounds.

Random person in flower dress.

The other side, so you know how to build your own. Start with multiple hundreds of potted begonias…..

Or ducks. All these forms are metal frames studded with potted flowers.

Or an immense peacock, in yellow and red this year.

To be continued…
