Museum of Anthropology 3

 Exhibits, Continued

Painted pumpkins

Before I left, granddaughter Mieka gave me a picture she had made. It is Oma and Mieka with a bear sticker and lots of accoutrements, some of which have subsequently become detached in adventures. We named the little bear Juanita. So all along the way in our travels, Oma has sent Miss Mieka a “Where is Juanita?” photo, so she can follow along. This is one of those.

This is a large ceramic collage depicting the Garden of Eden. Note Adam and Eve below and angels above.

And “God” at the apex in a French wig. (God must be at the height of fashion, of course.) He is above what might be the Virgin. All the little individual pieces are wired on.

This is a mystery

The lower figures are made from woven corn husks.

Dwellings

Very large vessels

A woven Turkey

Various grains

Tools and an ox yoke, the later being post- European introduction of livestock. The natives had no domestic animals except dogs before Europeans brought horses, cattle, etc. along with their farming practices.

That included animal-powered plows.
To be continued…..
