Verona Evening Stroll

Ancient and Old

Ancient Roman Coliseum in the centre of the city; still used for operas

Ancient Roman gateway

Notice the wheel tracks in the stones under the arch gate

Note the ceiling carvings

The fortress bridge

The drawbridge into the fortress

An impressive hinge on the drawbridge

A fountain just inside the drawbridge gate

This fellow is no longer happy, either for his empty fountain or watching tourists all day.

This fountain is so old its drips have worn away the stone.

Cannonballs, in case the war starts again. These are three and four times the size of your head.

The back wall of the fortress

Looking out from an aperture in the bridge
