Georgia, Day Fifteen

One Less

Today my Better Half headed home, back to work. The rest of us wandered the town to see the sights. A couple of sites I declined: the hike up to the ruined fortress and another beyond the park to some mineral baths. We did visit the Borjomi Museum of Local Lore, in town. It is in a building that was a Romanov administration building.

This is nearby the museum. Tchaikovsky visited here once, so got a statue.

The museum has some pre-Christ archeological finds like the previous museum we found, but also item of later periods and natural flora and fauna.

The fantastical animal forms

Parquet floors

The fire-extinguisher-PLUS corner

Historical paintings - war and peace

Ceramic collections

No idea what this signifies

A wooden plow

A homestead model

People who did things

What I didn’t get pictures of in the last museum

That is a baby cradle form in the back, I believe.

Various stuffed native animals were on display. This is a small bear.

Much woodwork all over the country

One sees drinking horns here, from the many horned cattle they keep, but THIS is a special one: a mammoth tusk. In front is a tooth.

Then we walked to a Park, partly amusement park with rides, partly mineral springs with sulfur water for healing what ails you, partly cable car station to go up the hills, and partly the start of treks with off-road vehicles or horses.
First we stopped at this pretty church.

Beautiful mosaic work.

Then on to the park, along a river with old summer houses of the nobles, now used as restaurants, hotels, or embassies.

Vine-y vines

Prometheus, I presume. He supposedly did his fire deed and got his punishment in this region.

The children’s rides were the standard colorful whirling things, except the little Mickey Mouse wagon you see here. It had tiny little mechanical feet that click-clacked down the sidewalk pulling the little cart with two children inside. Quite delightful. I didn’t get a picture when it went by, but it was the sound that was most interesting.

Then back to the hotel, until suppertime.

The would-be-palace lobby.
