Trip to Georgia, Day One

Zürich to Tbilisi, Via Warsaw

We give thanks for relatively uneventful flights -  except for almost forgetting a piece of luggage in the car (it was an ungodly early hour, so I am excused, right?), and another of us leaving her boarding pass at security check, after helping her Dad with shoes, and some turbulence on arrival in Georgia - everyone clapped when we landed safely.

A train station, unused, across from the airport.

'

Heading to our hotel on a pleasant boulevard.

A relic of communist days, our driver said.

We took some twisty side roads to get where we needed to be.

Probably a monastery.

Our quirky boutique hotel.

At the entrance

Behind the reception desk

Our room view. Note broken windows, but inhabited, and decorated.

Fifth floor restaurant with a VIEW.

The white Building is the president‘s palace.
The ballon floats with helium
Note the ancient fortress in the hills.
The city has 1.1 million people, in a country of 3 million.

Wine and writing in travel journals on the terrace , then supper as the sunset, and the buildings were lit.

An exquisite steak salad

Salmon and pomegranate and almonds, superb

Then, for someone who likes surprises, “ Chef’s Pomegranate.”
Lift the lid, and voila.

Then it was too dark for more pictures.

To be continued, D.v……
