Georgia, Day Two, Part Two

More Sights

Ceiling painting in a gatehouse.

Icon cleaner in a small church. There is a glass covering over. This is probably a relic of Covid days.

In the same church. The small ones are typically dark, lit by dome windows and candles.

Utilities access cover in a street.

Mosque entrance

Between the mosque and the bathhouses.

Archeological site

Note the dates

Underground fortifications made into a market.

Exit of market and street dog.

Sunday construction

A wedding just happened.

“I could eat you little things…”

Garden along the river.

Railing on our balcony. Not OSHA approved.

Decorations on back of our hotel.

Walking back to city center another way.

Common local architecture.

Underground passage graffiti.

Little Bird

Sculpture in front of the casino. The shiny parts are where people touch as they get their photos taken.
Evidently the casino has exclusive rights to card playing. Maria and Philippe were told they could not play cards in the evening in the bar/restaurant area. “Not allowed.”

Thus

An Atlas Obscura entry, Leaning tower of Tbilisi.

The other side.

Woodwork

An ancient church and archeological site.

From ages ago

Evening diners on the street

A peek in yet another small church.

Steps to basement in courtyard of said church.

And dinner.
For two people, with several courses, and a bottle of fine local wine, the cost was about $/Fr/€ 40.
The menu shows local currency.

A ubiquitous local bread

Eggplant and spinach and pomegranate

Beef dumplings

Then, walking back.

Road width must be maintained.

Oops. Inadequate foundation.
Better Half wanted to wander the poor quarters.

That is not the photo angle; it’s the building angle.

But others are more solid.

The end of Day Two.

  1. Thanks for sharing your trip, Sarah. I’m glad Dad and I got to do a little of such. Surely couldn’t now….
